about
All specimens come from sustainable sources. Most fur is vintage and comes from thrift stores, estate sales, and occasionally, collectors downsizing their collections. Non-vintage furs are either secondhand or were being sold as scrap.
The organs and wild animal parts used in wet specimens are scraps from a tannery/farm in eastern Washington. Reptile specimens died of natural causes and were given to me by their breeders.
It's impossible to list every source given the variety of products, but I am always happy to discuss my sources.
About the Artist
Crown of Bone has been bringing sustainably-sourced oddities and hand-crafted wonders to markets in the Puget Sound since 2021. Based in Renton, shop owner Jye Zehring brings their enthusiasm for natural history, sense of humor, and love of sharing knowledge to each market. Jye lovingly refers to their table as the "dead petting zoo" and encourages customers to touch the oddities, especially vintage furs, due to the knowledge, wonder, and appreciation that can be gained from the experience - especially as most educational specimens are "hands off" exhibits. Crown of Bone operates under the philosophy that imperfections should be embraced. Jye enjoys salvaging unwanted specimens and incorporating animal by-products into their work.
SOURCING
Crown of Bone is run by Jye Zehring (they/them), a natural history nerd based in Renton, WA. Jye has been described as "a sentient raccoon," "nerd of the odd," and "a gobliny sort of person who always needs more pockets." They have a fondness for broken, imperfect things, and love caring for the vintage and dead.
